The truth on cost · 15. November 2006, 18:08 by Derek Torres

There’s been a lot of talk lately, especially from Mac folks, about how Windows Vista is going to cost a lot of money in terms of upgrading hardware or even your entire computer.

Before people start to panic, I decided to take a look at Best Buy’s web site to see what is going on. For American users who are on a budget and want to make sure that they can run Windows Vista, let me say this:

Suffice it to say that there are a number of machines for under $500 that will run Windows Vista.

You can even get a Vista Premium machine (Compaq – Presario 3800+ Desktop) for five and some change. This is still less than what I spent to get my desktop to Premium requirements.

So, no, you don’t have to necessarily break the bank or spend thousands of dollars to enjoy Windows Vista or even to get Aero.

  1. What a lot of fuss about nothing. I believe that Microsoft have really shot themselves in the foot with Vista.
I’ve recently switched from XP to Kubuntu, and after trying Vista RC1, know for sure that I won’t be rushing out to buy Windows Vista!

  2. I’d be interested in hearing more on your thoughts. What didn’t you like about RC1 and what can Kubuntu offer?
