Still having BIOS problems with Vista? · 29. December 2006, 14:33 by Derek Torres
You may remember previous posts, such as this or that one discussing BIOS problems with later pre-RTM versions of Windows Vista.
The RTM version still didn’t work with my Gateway 3522GZ. With Vista about one month away from general avaialability, most computer manufacturers’ web sites feature lists of their product line that is Vista Capable and Vista Premium.
At this point in time, it’s hard to believe that BIOS makers like Phoenix are going to re-do BIOS for older computers and it’s even less likely that computer manufacturers are going to push for them.
For the readers who chimed in with the same problem, I fear your only choice – if you’re looking to go to Vista – is to change computers. If you’re planning on staying with XP, or give a Linux distro a try, then there’s no need – your current BIOS should be sufficient.
However, as I mentioned earlier, you don’t necessarily need to drop a lot of money to get a Vista Premium computer. I’ve seen some desktops in the low 500s and I just got a great deal on a Toshiba notebook.
