So long, Windows Mail · 8. May 2007, 11:15 by Stuart Mudie
Windows Mail, the Vista mail app that more or less replaced Outlook Express, is in turn about to be shelved – to be replaced by Windows Live Mail.

Finding files that don't want to be found Hey, beta users...
10:51 Windows Mail? Interesting! Didn’t even know that existed.
Maybe I can use it to read my almost-junked Hotmail offline? Microsoft had rudely stopped letting me use Hotmail with Outlook Express months ago, after I had tried their Live Mail interface and decided I didn’t like it. I’ve used Hotmail for over a century. I even used to pay for my 20-megabyte Inbox. I’ve mostly switched to Gmail, but I’d like to keep Hotmail as a backup.
10:53 Weird message from Windows Mail tells me something about HTTP and how it can’t work with Hotmail.
Just another day with Vista.
And, wow, will Microsoft ever get its act together on the Internet?
PS: Every time I boot Vista, my first welcome message is “Messenger a cessé de fonctionner”. Recently, I am told this has something to do with an Acer driver, which I have so far been unable to retrieve from their web site.
My experience with Vista conjures an impression of Microsoft shooting itself in the foot in an amazingly creative variety of ways. I try to stay out of the line of fire, but it’s not easy. I really wish my laptop had come pre-installed with XP.
