RC1: Build 5600 · 8. September 2006, 22:34 by Derek Torres
We’re now in the final steps of completing writing of The Unofficial Guide to Windows Vista. We were both able to download the RC1 build earlier this week and are working with it.
It’s really amazing how much better this build is compared to build 5472 from July. I think CPP users will also be impressed with how much better it is.
As for us, we’re about to wrap things up in the next few days and get this off to the good people at Wiley and then get this thing out!
A few quick notes:
- The installation process was even faster, or so it seemed, than that of Pre-RC1.
- IE7 got rid of that obnoxious second tab for Windows Live.
- As far as I recall, this is the first version that actually supports upgrades. Just remember that you need to launch the DVD from Windows XP (or whatever your current OS is) and not book from the DVD.
- The two task bar buttons on the left side seemed to have switched – they now show desktop and then show the 3D display.
- It seemed like the Automatically activate Windows option didn’t work – I still had to go manually activate it (it also had a 14-day activation period – I expected 30 days).
