The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant · 10. September 2006, 04:00 by Derek Torres
I’ve been reading about this problem (which is not new to Windows, it’s been going on since Windows 2000 days), but today is the first time I’ve encountered it.
The custom installation of RC1 works like a charm. I attempted to install an upgrade on a qualified computer (Gateway 3522GZ) and continually receive the BSOD with this error:
“The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your system vendor for an updated BIOS.”
Given the age of my machine (1 year old), the BIOS should clearly support ACPI 2.0. I’m also using the most current version of my BIOS.
Tech support at Gateway yielded nothing. I’ll be looking to Microsoft to sort me out since nothing on Google seemed to help.
If any of our readers have more information on this and how to get around it, do let me know!

I am running into that same problem on my Gateway 3550GZ computer. I haven’t figured it out yet. If you figure it out, please email me. I’ll do the same.

UPDATE: I’ve spent a considerable amount of time trying to get this to work. So far, all I can deduce is that the system hangs on the disk.sys file and not acpi.sys. The error message has now changed – it suggests that I verify that I have enough disk space (I have 50GB of which 30GB are free on this laptop). It also suggests a new video adaptor; the Upgrade Advisor says my video hardware is compatible, just not for Aero. I tried to enable and disable the ACPI-compatible components from the System Properties (since my BIOS has nothing of this nature), but to no avail.

I’ve had the same problem on my Gateway 200ARC since Beta 1. It definitly has ACPI 2.0, but it can’t recognize it. I have read some articles on Google and found out that Gateway has to release an updated BIOS so Vista can recognize it. Toshiba has already done this for most models. So I guess we wait on Gateway.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A35-S209 and am getting the same ACPI error. I have the latest published version of the BIOS (v1.8) and yet Vista still says that it isn’t compliant… any ideas?????

Sounds like the latest BIOS isn’t Vista-ready. Toshiba most likely will have to publish a new BIOS for its existing product line at some point. Same as Gateway. What is strange to me is why the earlier Betas worked on my 3522GZ and now it doesn’t.

I have the same problem with my ThinkPad T61p. It was shipped with Vista32 Ultimate, so I have no idea why I cannot install Vista on it again.
