Anti-virus makers protest about Windows Vista · 3. October 2006, 23:21 by Stuart Mudie
The web is full of chatter today about the advert placed in the Financial Times by McAfee and Symantec to protest about what they see as Microsoft locking anti-virus companies out of Vista with its redesigned security model.
Personally, I agree with LICAS Digital Blog (“McAfee throws a tantrum”) – this seems to be as much about these companies saying, “Hey, we might have to rebuild some of our products!” than it is about any restrictive practices on the part of Microsoft.
There is much to be said about the new security features in Vista, both good and bad, but the main message I took away from all the changes is that Microsoft is at least doing something about making its OS more secure – and that can only be a good thing.
