Updated licensing information · 15. October 2006, 23:01 by Derek Torres
There’s new information out from Microsoft suggesting that the licensing scheme would be different for Vista than with XP.
While we assumed this to be true from earlier information, it actually seems more lenient to me than what I originally read. My understanding was that a single license was for a single computer. Full stop.
Unlike XP, which would let you transfer a single license an unlimited number of times, Vista lets you transfer to another computer one time only. In other words, if you decide to buy a new computer and get rid of the old one, you could transfer your license to the new computer, but couldn’t do it to another computer if you decide to replace it.
While some blogs have parsed the meaning of the new licesning details, I think Microsoft’s intent is pretty clear.
